Welcome to the SGS website where we aim to tell you about the club and perhaps inspire you with our skipping galleries and news.
We are a community skipping club, which regularly competes in BRSA organised competitions. The sport of Rope Skipping, also called Jump Rope in America, combines the skills of jumping, dancing and gymnastics. Skippers need to have speed, endurance and some gymnastic and musical ability to be a good all round performer.

We promote skipping as an activity for all as we feel it offers many health and additional benefits to both children and adults of all ages.
Improved cardio-vascular fitness
Increased muscular strength
Improved stamina levels
Improved flexibility
Improved co-ordination
Increase in social skills through meeting and working with others
Increased self-esteem through an easy to learn skill
Opportunities for fun, education and creativity.
It is also an activity open to many since no specialist equipment is required: just an inexpensive skipping rope and somewhere safe to swing it!

Our 2 top skippers, Tiffany Branscombe and Georgia Toay, travelled to Loughborough in the Summer holidays to represent the UK at the World Youth Tournament, part of the World Championships. As half of team GB23 they finished 13th out of 16 in the 12-14 Open team division so at least fulfilled their ambition not to be last! Their best event was the 3 person double dutch routine in which they finished a creditable 8th.

Tiffany also competed in the 12-14 Female Masters in which she was ranked 41st in the World. She had had very little time to prepare for this event as she was suddenly invited to take part 1 month beforehand.

The next competition to be held at Studley Leisure Centre will be the Masters competition on Saturday 25th September. This is an individual competition consisting of 30secs speed, 30secs double unders and a freestyle routine. Entries must be handed in to the club by Saturday 4th September.
